What Is Drama About?

The premise of Drama in 304 words, with nothing given away. The full story follows below.

In a bustling corner of London, far from the warm hills of Kattappana, an Indian family finds itself navigating love, loss, and legacy in ways that are as heartwarming as they are chaotic. Rosamma, a widowed mother, has crossed continents to live with her daughter Mercy, whose home becomes a gathering place for a family that the world has scattered. With children spread across Canada, America, Australia, and Dubai, every phone call carries the weight of distance, and every reunion hints at old tensions quietly waiting to surface.

Into this world steps Dixon Lopez, a charming funeral director who runs his agency alongside his partner Rajagopal. Their business deals in grief, but the pair handle it with a flair that feels almost theatrical — practical, polished, and just theatrical enough to soften the hardest moments. When the family is suddenly thrust into the rituals of farewell, Dixon and Rajagopal become unlikely guides through unfamiliar territory, offering a service that is equal number business, ceremony, and cultural negotiation.

The film moves with the rhythm of a family comedy-drama, finding humor in the everyday friction of siblings who haven’t shared a roof in years. Old hierarchies resurface, loyalties are tested, and the simple logistics of burial become a stage for laughter, bickering, and unexpected tenderness. Beneath the bustle, a quieter question lingers: what does it mean to honor someone’s memory when everyone, it seems, has their own idea of what that looks like?

With its blend of cross-cultural warmth and gentle absurdity, the story paints London as a place where tradition and modern life collide with both friction and grace. The characters stumble through their grief in ways that feel deeply human, finding connection in the most unexpected places. It is a tale about family — imperfect, far-flung, and bound together by something stronger than geography.

Spoilers ahead

The story revolves around Rosamma John Chacko, a widowed mother with five children: Ammini, Philip, Benny, Mercy, and Jomon. After moving from Kattappana to London to stay with Mercy and her husband, Dr. Mukundanunni, Rosamma unexpectedly passes away in her sleep.

As the siblings gather from across the globe—including Canada, America, Australia, and Dubai—tensions rise regarding the funeral arrangements. While most of the children are inclined to follow the logistics suggested by Dixon Lopez and his partner Rajagopal, the youngest son, Jomon, insists that their mother’s final wish was to be buried in Kattappana beside their father. This creates a rift, leading Jomon to distance himself from his siblings.

During this time, a worker named Podiyan has a surreal, vodka-induced hallucination where Rosamma speaks to him, urging him to help Jomon fulfill her wish. This encounter deeply affects Rajagopal, who is struggling with a fractured marriage with his wife, Rekha. Driven by a desire for redemption, Raju decides to assist Jomon. With the help of a political contact, Kunjachayan, and an engineer named Balachandran, Raju orchestrates a legal scare regarding a construction project managed by Philip and Benny.

The pressure forces Philip and Benny to reconsider their plans. In a bold move, Raju and Jomon forcefully move the body to Raju’s home, an act that eventually leads to a reconciliation between Raju and Rekha. Despite the chaos and the demands of the funeral agency, Jomon convinces his siblings to honor their mother’s true desire. He even sacrifices his inheritance by ripping up the deed to the house Rosamma left him, proving his selfless intentions. Ultimately, the family reunites to bury Rosamma in Kattappana, finding peace and closure together.
