The film opens with a mythic tale about a greedy woman who longs to marry the King. After the wedding, their life together doesn’t last, and she slips away to be with her former lover, secretly raising a boy. The mother watches over the child in the shadows until the King learns of him and, in a blaze of rage, hurls the boy into a fire. Grief consumes the mother as she sacrifices her own soul to the Satan by hanging herself in front of the house. Overcome with sorrow, the King falls from his fort and dies. Soon after, locals near the house report eerie, paranormal activity, and those touched by the haunting are killed by a vengeful ghost. A Buddhist Monk learns of these events and travels to Sivankondamalai to confront the restless spirit. He meditates, and when he opens his eyes, he finds himself in a haunted bungalow where the ghost threatens his life. The monk manages to trap the ghost inside a magical box, but the ordeal leaves him unconscious. His assistants warn the bungalow’s owner that the place is haunted, setting the stage for a lingering chill that threads through the modern tale.

In present-day Chennai, Kajal hosts a party to reunite with her old school friends. The gathering unfolds a bit of history: Kajal recalls her classmate Kumar, Santhanam, who was sent away from school after a Valentine’s Day card exchange and a teacher’s ire. The flashback establishes a playful yet tense dynamic between Kajal and Kumar, hinting at a spark that never truly died. In the current era, Kumar’s uncle Mohan struggles to keep his truck from the clutches of a ruthless financier, a man who also happens to be Kajal’s father. When Mohan and Kumar break into the financier’s house, they stumble into Kajal’s home, and Kajal, unaware of their shared history, hands Kumar over to the police. The next day, Kumar’s father confronts Kajal’s father at the police station, demanding that the case be withdrawn. Realizing the connection to her childhood friend, Kajal tracks down Kumar’s address and discovers the truth of their past together. Meanwhile, Kumar and Mohan hatch a plan to teach Kajal a lesson by kidnapping her, but Kajal’s courage and a kiss reveal their past romance and reunite them.

The wedding Kajal attends becomes a turning point. A misinterpretation by Kajal’s sister’s husband, portrayed by a moment where a family’s lineage seems to align, unsettles the atmosphere and forces Kumar to introduce his family to Kajal’s father to seek approval. The father, seeking to protect his daughter, arranges for Kajal to marry another man, but Kumar refuses to concede. In response, a dangerous plot unfolds: a ruthless Sketch Mani murders Kumar’s family under the guise of a haunted ritual, inviting them to a forsaken house under the pretense of marriage. The plan hinges on a fearsome legend and a malevolent ghost—yet the true trap lies in a religious relic, the Vel, which Kumar’s mother unintentionally brings into play by dropping it into the bag. The box that holds the spirits remains at the center of the house, its power waiting for the right moment to release what sleeps inside.

Mani and his henchmen stage eerie tricks to frighten Kajal and Kumar, turning fear into a test of trust. Kumar soon realizes the spookshow is a sham, and he convinces his family to confront the phantoms directly. The monk, who understands the box’s danger, learns that moonlight can release the spirit unless the box is secured. He dispatches a disciple to recover the box, but a tragic mix-up leads to the intruder being knocked out. As the moon climbs, the box is finally touched by light, and the ghost within is freed. Kumar encounters the real specter, while the monk arrives, drawing one ghost back into the box. A second spectral force possesses Kajal, pushing her toward danger. The monk delves into a realm where Kajal’s soul is trapped, hearing a piercing cry that calls for Kumar. He sends Kumar into that otherworldly space to confront the angry spirit, but the monk becomes trapped himself. In a heroic turn, Kumar’s mother retrieves the Vel and places it into Kumar’s hand, restoring his inner strength. With renewed courage, Kumar wields the Vel and banishes the ghost.

Months pass, and Kajal and Kumar marry, choosing to live a quiet, happy life together. Yet the haunting resurges in the form of Mani, who returns with a chilling line: This is not the end. This is the beginning. The tale ends on a note of eerie continuity, underscoring that the past is never fully behind them, and the bond between Kajal and Kumar remains a powerful shield against the shadows that still linger.
