After her father is shot, Laura Mansfield sees the killer hurdle the gate as he escapes. At the police station, she browses suspects in a lineup. In a quiet moment outside the station, she chats with Jackie without revealing her identity. Laura lets him drive her home, and she later spots the same gate being hurdled again, just as before.

Police Lt. Brewster leads the homicide investigation but dismisses Laura’s tip, instead charging Frank Niles, Mansfield’s business rival, with the crime.
