In the Dongwoo-ri Building, a pivotal conference for Chains Bio is underway. Here, Kwon Se-jeong (Jun Ji-hyun) unexpectedly encounters her ex-husband Han Gyu-Seong (Go Soo), who is eager to introduce her to Kang Woo-Chul, the CEO of Chains Bio, in hopes of securing her a new job. Once a respected professor, Kwon’s career was derailed when she exposed a fellow professor’s abuse of graduate students. Ten years post-divorce, their conversation reveals lingering emotions: “You have no friends,” Han states, emphasizing his desire to help her rebuild her life.

Kang captivates the audience with his insights on the potential of collective intelligence, drawing analogies to ants and yellow slime mold, suggesting that humanity could undergo a significant evolution if such intelligence is harnessed. Kwon’s invitation card bears a cryptic message: “Imperfect communication is the source of all tragedy.” The atmosphere shifts as Kang showcases their groundbreaking research—demonstrating that they managed to make a paralyzed rat walk again, highlighting the profound implications of this scientific progress.

Meanwhile, Security Officer Choi Hyun-Seok (Ji Chang-wook) shares a heartwarming lunch break with his sister Choi Hyun-Yee (Kim Shin-rok), who is paralyzed and uses a powered wheelchair. Their wistful discussion about going camping brings a rare moment of joy, as Hyun-Yee envisions a day outdoors.

However, the tranquility is shattered when Kang notices Seo in the audience and abruptly exits to address the police regarding Seo’s looming threat. Kwon nudges Han to seize the opportunity to impress Kang, unaware of the chaos about to unfold. Inside a secluded bathroom, Seo confronts Kang, accusing him of stealing his research.
