Chidambaram, a kind-hearted simpleton from a wealthy family in Karaikudi, has cherished his cousin Uma since childhood. Uma, now educated, loves Arun, setting up a love triangle that drives the social tensions. The early warmth between them foreshadows the conflicts to come.

During a family arrangement, Uma's mother Ponnazhagi ridicules Chidambaram for his naivety. The insult becomes a catalyst, pushing him to prove his worth. He resolves to secure a respectable position that could win Uma's hand and family approval.

Chidambaram starts work for Ambalavaanan

To prove himself, Chidambaram accepts employment with Ambalavaanan, a temple trustee who secretly runs a diamond-smuggling operation. He believes the job will boost his status and win respect from Uma's family. Unbeknownst to him, he is being drawn into a dangerous criminal network.

A key twist reveals Masilamani, Arun's father, is the mastermind behind the smuggling operation, known as the Black Cat. He overhears Beemarao's conversations and begins to manipulate events from behind the scenes. The revelation reorients the pursuit toward a powerful, familial obstacle.
