Chandramohan, Chandramohan, is a government employee and a devoted follower of classical dance. He makes his living critiquing young dancers, with his thoughtful reviews often appearing in magazines. His wife, Sushama, is also a government employee, but she lives far away from him and keeps pressing for a transfer. She remains tightly involved in almost every detail of his life, sometimes clashing with his independence and the way he balances duty, art, and love.

Chandramohan’s life centers on his passion for dance and his role as a discerning critic. The couple decides to take a family trip to Thanjavur, where an encounter with a Nadi astrologer sets the course for the film’s central mystery. The astrologer recounts a love story from Chandramohan’s past life, a tale that supposedly unfolded a thousand years ago, long before their current era.

In that ancient thread, Velkozhukottuvan was a poet in the court of Raja Raj Chozhan. He is drawn to Vasanthmallika, a dancer from Madurai visiting the king’s sabha. Their instant attraction unsettles the king, who retaliates by sending Velkozhukottuvan to war. The young poet is crushed when he is trampled by an elephant, a traumatic end that haunts the present as the astrologer hints at the possibility of a reunion in this lifetime.

Back in the present, the idea of reuniting with Vasanthmallika feels far-fetched to Chandramohan, yet it still unsettles him. Sushama, already worried by her husband’s odd behavior and the gaps in his stories, grows more uneasy as his fascination with the past intensifies. Some friends urge him to consider a life beyond conventional boundaries, arguing that midlife crises can blur lines between fantasy and reality. Driven by that push and his own inner turmoil, Chandramohan begins to experience vivid hallucinations of Velkozhukottuvan, blurring the lines between memory, myth, and his waking life.

Then a new figure enters his office: a woman named Geetanjali. She claims to be a fan, but her presence soon reveals deeper complications. Geetanjali is a government doctor who has been dealing with a flood of complaints, and she asks Chandramohan to delay any formal paperwork for two months because she has a dance program in Germany. He is convinced by her appeal, and their meetings grow more frequent and intimate. He starts to believe she is the long-lost Vasanthmallika, and the two slide into a pattern of outings and growing closeness.

This budding relationship triggers a cascade of tensions at home. One night, after dinner, Chandramohan discovers Sushama at home, and he learns that she has secured a transfer. The revelation unsettles him and deepens his conflict. Sushama’s suspicions sharpen when she notices the changes in his habits—especially after he leaves them at a supermarket to visit Geetanjali, who has supposedly been hospitalized. Realizing something is off, she digs deeper and discovers that the name in his contact list has been altered from Geetanjali to Geetanandhan, a clue that deepens her fears.

Sushama confronts Chandramohan, and the confrontation forces him into a choice between a dangerous fantasy and the life he has with his wife. She even borrows Geetanjali’s number to test the truth, hearing a woman’s voice and discovering the deception by tracing the connections. She reaches out to Geetanjali, posing as a fan, and follows the trail that leads her to a Travel Agency, where she spots Chandramohan with the woman she suspects is not who she claims to be.

The tension peaks as Geetanjali and Chandramohan plan a final meeting before her departure. Sushama, prayerful and determined, confronts the truth at home. When Chandramohan nears Geetanjali’s door that night, a distraught moment arrives: he hears a baby crying, recalls his own son, and chooses to return to his wife and the life they built together. The sight of his return brings relief to Sushama, even as Geetanjali is left tearful and heartbreakingly alone in the wake of his decision. In the film’s quiet closing beats, Chandramohan deletes Geetanjali’s number and answers a call from Sushama, signaling a return to the reality he shares with her and a step away from the seductive illusion that once beckoned him.
