After inheriting a 12th-century castle in Italy that once belonged to a famed Duchess, John Reilly, his wife Susan, and their blind teenage daughter Rebecca travel to the estate to visit and oversee its liquidation. The trip is shaded by grief and guilt: John wrestles with the memory of their five-year-old son’s death in a drunken crash, a tragedy that also left Rebecca without sight, while Susan blames him for the fractured family.
