Escape to Bombay after forced marriage

Kamala and her family flee a forced child marriage and migrate to Bombay seeking safety and a fresh start. In the city, Kamala supports her grandfather, a watchmaker, and her sister Tara by selling flowers and taking whatever work comes her way.

Kamala begins dancing at Pyaasa and faces a Dubai offer

To support her family, Kamala takes a job as a dancer at the bar Pyaasa. Mike, a pimp, notices her and arranges a lucrative offer to go to Dubai, demanding half of two lakh rupees as his cut.

Kamala and Salim's unspoken romance

Kamala notices Salim, a Muslim flower seller from across the street, and they fall in love. They communicate only through glances and flowers, their bond growing despite the barriers between them.
