Elwood is released from prison

Elwood Blues is released from prison after eighteen years. He is shocked to learn that his brother Joliet Jake Blues has died, which stirs him to attempt a comeback with his old blues world. He is picked up by Matara, a friend who has connections to his former drummer Willie Hall and wants to help him get back on his feet.

Matara reconnects Elwood and plans a comeback

Matara collects Elwood from the road and commits to helping him re-establish himself. The reunion hints at rebuilding the Blues Brothers' circle and making a comeback. They head toward reassembling the band.

Hospital encounter with Mother Mary Stigmata

Before meeting Willie, Elwood visits Mother Mary Stigmata, now working at a hospital. She informs him that Curtis has died but fathered an illegitimate son named Cabel Chamberlain, an Illinois State Police commander. She introduces him to an orphan named Buster and hints at mentoring him.

Elwood seeks Cabel at the police headquarters

Against Stigmata's advice, Elwood tracks down Cabel at his police headquarters to break the news of his parentage and invite him to join the reformed Blues Brothers Band. Cabel is offended by their past and rejects the idea, throwing Elwood out of the building. Buster steals Elwood's wallet, providing enough money for a new Bluesmobile.

Willie Hall joins the band

Elwood and Buster begin recruiting former band members. Willie Hall agrees to join after his strip club is burned down in an incident connected to Elwood's schemes involving Willie's barman, Mack McTeer. The event signals the beginning of the band’s revival.

Mack McTeer signs on

Mack McTeer, the barman from Willie's club, joins the Blues Brothers Band to help manage the recruitment effort. He becomes a crucial ally in gathering the remaining members and executing Elwood's plan. His inclusion strengthens the ensemble.

Matt Murphy rejoins with wife’s help

Guitarist Matt Murphy rejoins the band at the suggestion of his wife, who now runs a Mercedes-Benz dealership. He brings back the familiar sound and credibility of the past. The couple's involvement marks the revival of the band’s core talent.

Blue Lou Marini and radio crew join

Saxophonist Blue Lou Marini joins the Blues Brothers Band. Additionally, three members who work at a radio station quickly agree to join, giving the band new publicity and reach. The lineup expands as recruitment continues.

Band books a show and is chased by police

Interruption of militia and boat destruction

While avoiding the police, Elwood interrupts a militia group’s meeting and unintentionally destroys their boat full of explosives. The incident escalates the danger around their performance. The band presses on despite the chaos.

Bluegrass misbooking and performance

The band arrives at the venue only to discover they have been booked as a Bluegrass act, but they perform anyway. Their energy overrides the mismatch, and the crowd responds to the iconic performance. The misbooking adds a comic twist to their return.

Tent revival and Cabel’s epiphany

After the show, the band evades capture and meets Reverend Cleophus James at a tent revival. The Reverend’s words spark an epiphany in Cabel, convincing him to join the band rather than enforce the law. The dynamic shifts again as Cabel commits to the Blues Brothers.

Battle of the Bands and statues

The Blues Brothers face a Battle of the Bands against the Louisiana Gator Boys. Queen Mousette casts a spell that forces them to try a Caribbean set and turns Elwood, Mack, and Cabel into statues. The spell is later reversed, restoring their ability to perform.
