The enigmatic painting then finds its way into a dance competition, being awarded as a prize to Saraswathi, a celebrated Bharatanatyam dancer, along with her husband and their family. On Gowri’s engagement day, a sequence of chilling incidents unsettles the family: a 30-foot snake appears and vanishes, one of Gowri’s friends collapses, and the groom flees from the house in fear. Desperate for answers, the family calls in Ramachandra Shastry [Avinash], an astrologer-sage, whose suspicions point squarely at the haunting painting. To aid the investigation, they enlist Dr. Vijay [Vishnuvardhan], a seasoned psychiatrist, and together they begin to untangle a web of clues that stretch far beyond the present into a storied past.

The investigation traces a trail that reaches back nearly 125 years to the reign of Raja Vijaya Rajendra Bahadur, a figure whose life and enmity with Nagavalli have echoed through generations. Vijay confronts a shocking revelation: the portrait he studied in a distant palace years earlier resembled Bahadur, and Bahadur himself bears a startling resemblance to Vijay, stirring questions about fate and identity. The book Sastry consults reveals that Bahadur’s elder brother Vinaya Rajendra Bahadur was killed by Bahadur in a bid to seize power, leaving the old chronicles murky with questions about whether Bahadur survives in some hidden form.

As Vijay digs deeper, he discovers a telltale pattern—the painting’s room in the outhouse contains a hidden, rectangular mark on the wall, and Saraswathi’s fate seems indelibly linked to Nagavalli. The library hints at a larger truth, and a mysterious old man at Nagavalli’s home in Peddapuram recites a chilling tale: years ago, a young woman asked about Nagavalli and returned with a portrait, only to vanish into madness. The doctor pieces these threads together and realizes that Saraswathi’s supposed death after a truck accident, which claimed her husband along with the painting, was a carefully laid deception.

Vijay confirms Bahadur’s supposed fate by printing an astrological profile and presenting it to the fort’s elders, leading to a dramatic sequence at Bahadur’s stronghold. Sastry conducts a ritual to cast Nagavalli out of Saraswathi, and though Saraswathi’s madness subsides, the deeper influence of Nagavalli remains. It becomes clear that Gowri—the other daughter of the family—has also been touched by Nagavalli’s presence. Gowri’s behavior alternates between her own self and Nagavalli’s, revealing that she had studied Nagavalli’s lover Ramanatha, and even borrowed Nagavalli’s portrait to probe into this history.

The puzzle tightens as Gowri’s actions—scribbling both Gowri (in English) and Nagavalli (in Telugu) in the family ledger—expose her as a conduit for Nagavalli’s will. Vijay deduces that Gowri infiltrated Nagavalli’s world by adopting her identity to learn more about her lover, Ramanatha, and to test the limits of the painting’s power. In a tense sequence, Gowri travels to the fort to face Bahadur, while Vijay anticipates her move and follows to protect the people around her. The couple—Gowri and the fiancé she had frightened away—are set to marry, while Geetha, the other sister, is also ready to wed.
