Altered Carbon: Resleeved 2020

On the planet Latimer, Holly, Ayaka Asai is being chased by the yakuza, and her escape leads her into a neon-lit club where danger intensifies. A ninja intervention interrupts the pursuit just as the killers close in, and the fight is taken up by Takeshi, Tatsuhisa Suzuki, in his Ken sleeve, who fends off the attacker with precise, kinetic force. After this tense moment, they meet with Tanaseda, Kenji Yamauchi, who tasks Takeshi with protecting Holly and uncovering the mystery behind his younger brother’s death. Holly manages to slip away through a bathroom window, only to collide with Gina, Rina Sato, of CTAC, which kicks off a fresh series of escalating confrontations. Takeshi intervenes, pinning Gina with a gun in hand until reinforcements arrive, but the clash is far from over.

The trio—Holly, Takeshi, and Gina—find themselves ambushed again by ninjas, who wipe out Gina’s unit in a brutal strike. After a grueling chase, Takeshi and Gina dispose of the intruders, and Holly reveals the ninjas were sent by Shinji, who is maneuvering for a coup within the Mizumoto syndicate. They push on toward the Mizumoto headquarters, housed inside Latimer’s oldest luxury hotel, the Wild Geese. There they encounter Ogai, the hotel’s AI butler, who greets them with cold efficiency. Shinji arrives soon after, relieved that Holly is alive, and in a gesture of apparent reconciliation he grants Holly’s protectors a lavish, exclusive room as a show of good faith.

In the Mizumoto tattoo room, where Holly continues to ink Shinji, Takeshi speaks with Genzo, Koji Ishii, who explains the clan’s origin and the painful tradition: when a new boss is chosen, the old boss dies along with his stack. Meanwhile, Gena reports to CTAC and is revealed to be Reileen Kawahara, a revelation that adds a new layer of intrigue to the already tense power struggle. Takeshi reports back to Tanaseda, who suggests that the succession must play out with caution while protecting Holly until the truth behind the leadership is revealed.

As Holly probes deeper, she recalls an old memory of her parents’ murder, sensing that her own path is entangled with the Mizumoto’s ritual. The group is again attacked by two heavily armored ninjas who kill the remaining yakuza and stab Gina, forcing Takeshi and Gina to fight back with renewed resolve. Ogai activates the hotel’s defenses, wiping out the remaining threat, and Holly drops a crucial detail: the tattoo program devised by Margot—Maiko Irie—is designed to loop through the clan’s leadership, passing from one boss to the next and destroying the previous holder along with their stack.

Back in their room, Gina begins to suspect a deeper connection between Takeshi and her own past, while Tanaseda gives Takeshi new orders after noting Genzo’s unsettling laugh. On the day of the succession, a fireworks display and a blackout create the perfect cover for Holly’s disappearance. Shinji sees this as a window to press his advantage and orders the ninjas to kill Holly and her guards. Genzo arrives to speed up the succession, urging a premature turnover to prevent problems from spiraling out of control. Holly then appears and slips Shinji a drug, knocking him unconscious.

At the succession stage, Genzo’s tattoo activates and he kills along with his stack. Tanaseda reveals himself in the digital crowd, declaring that Shinji and Genzo were both his father and founder of the syndicate, a revelation that reframes the power lineage. Holly uncovers that she has already erased Shinji’s stack and transferred Genzo’s into Shinji’s body, confirming Genzo as the real founder. Ogai clears the audience as the Founder presses on, but Holly interrupts, attempting to trigger the destruction program to wipe him out. She exposes that the founder holds her parents’ stacks, and in a dramatic moment, he discards the stacks and rips the life from them.

The Mizumoto faction storms the stage with Takeshi and Gina, but the founder uses a power suit to slaughter the attackers. Takeshi and Gina fight the founder, yet are outmatched until Tanaseda arrives and has Ogai pull up the hotel’s systems to verify the truth: Shinji is not the rightful leader. A coordinated assault using fireworks collapses the stage, and though the Founder survives, Takeshi lands a decisive stab, destroying his armor. Holly proceeds to activate the tattoo program, which begins to erode the founder’s control, while Tanaseda shoots the founder’s stack and then Shinji’s head as a final act of paternal mercy.

Gina reports back to CTAC that her mission is complete and departs. Ogai then reveals Holly is Margot and offers a sleeve change, noting that this body is growing taller. Holly, choosing to stay in the current sleeve so Takeshi and Gina can recognize her later if they meet again, declines the offer. Takeshi, meanwhile, learns from Tanaseda that there are more jobs to come, hinting at a continuing, shadowed conflict across Latimer’s scarred skyline.
