Moisture spoils cake; fear of mice

While preparing to settle in, Amy notices a moist substance spoiling a piece of cake and worries about a potential mice problem. The moment creates unease and foreshadows the creatures that will threaten her. It also shows how fragile her new routine is.

Escape, car infestation, and car explosion

Amy and Marshall escape in Uri's car, which soon becomes a nest for hatchling lizards inside. Marshall improvises by using a cigar to ignite the gas and blow up the car, killing the lurking lizards. They survive but are left stranded in a deserted town.
