A Snow White Christmas 1980

After vanquishing the Wicked Queen, Queen Snow White (voiced by Diane Pershing) and her husband King Charming rule the land of Noel with a steady, peaceful rule. Their teenage daughter, also named Snow White for her snow-white hair, grows up under the shadow of the crown and the responsibilities that come with it. To celebrate the season and bring together the realm, the royal family organizes a Christmas Eve winter sports festival that fills Noel with light and movement. Among the participants is Charlie Dell as Grunyon, a bumbling but loyal dwarf who happens to be a close friend of the young Snow White. The princess shares a warm, hopeful Christmas wish: she wants to build a playhouse for all the children and even suggests remodeling a deserted castle on a mountaintop nearby. This castle once belonged to the original Snow White’s evil witch stepmother, the Wicked Queen, who has vanished after her defeat.

Unknown to the family, the Wicked Queen had remained frozen near that very abandoned castle for an age, and her fate suddenly changes when the colossal block of ice she was trapped in begins to melt. Freeing herself, she returns to her haunting home and discovers that a Magic Mirror still sits within its walls, hinting at a power greater than her own. The revived Queen learns that there are two Snow Whites—one Queen Snow White and the other a princess—more beautiful than she is and she burns with jealousy. Fueled by rage, she conjures a magical ice storm that sweeps across the kingdom, threatening to freeze Noel solid. The storm narrowly misses the second Snow White, but the danger is real enough to spur a desperate plan: the princess must be found before her parents are turned into ice statues. Grunyon, who was spared from the blast, leads Snow White into the forest to escape the chill and the Queen’s wrath.

In the Warm Valley, Snow White and Grunyon stumble into a giant garden where two giants appear—Finicky and Corny—who mistake them for bugs and attempt to squash them. Snow White sobs, and Grunyon strongly rebukes the giants for their harsh treatment; the giants apologize and explain themselves through song, introducing themselves along with five other giants: Thinker, Hicker, Tiny, Weeper, and Brawny. They turn out to be cousins of the Seven Dwarfs, and after hearing Snow White and Grunyon’s plea, they welcome them into their cottage and offer protection and shelter from the storm. The moment of relief is short-lived, however, as the Wicked Queen learns the young Snow White is still alive and actively sought after. She first transforms herself into a giant rat to eat the girl, but one of the giants shooes her away, thwarting the attack.

The Queen then melts the ice along the mountains to unleash a flood, yet Brawny is there to save Snow White from a perilous drowning. The giants decide to guard Snow White at their cottage, and Hicker is posted as a watchful sentinel. The Wicked Queen escalates her plan by turning two vultures into monstrous creatures to distract Hicker, then disguises herself as a grandold-sister figure of the giants, hoping to lure Snow White with the scent of a poisoned flower that would put her to sleep just as she had earlier with the poisoned apple. But the hiccups that haunt Hicker grow into a chorus of loud interruptions that bring the giants rushing back to the cottage just in time.

Seeing Snow White apparently dead pings the resolve of the giants, who march toward the Wicked Queen’s castle to reclaim the girl. The Queen summons lightning to halt them, but the formidable Brawny stands firm, blocking the assault. In a bid to overwhelm the intruders, she calls forth seven demons to do battle, yet Hicker’s hiccups surge with such force that they trigger an earthquake, bringing down the fortress in a dramatic collapse. The Magic Mirror, revealed as the source of the Queen’s dark power, shatters, and the wicked monarch evaporates into nothingness. With her downfall, the curse over Noel unravels, the ice thaws, and the statues of Noel’s people return to life just in time for Christmas Eve.

Grunyon and the Giants carry Snow White home in a rose-filled coffin, a touching symbol of the queen’s triumph over fear and winter. They kiss her cheeks, and in a moment of quiet magic, Snow White awakens to the warmth of her family’s embrace, and the realm erupts in celebration. The Wicked Queen’s castle lies in ruin, but the Giants reveal they have built a new castle for the children—a gift from friends and guardians who refused to let winter freeze their town’s spirit. Noel’s people gather to welcome the dawn of Christmas Eve with breath and song, grateful for the courage, friendship, and community that carried them through the long, cold night.
