Wilfried Seyferth was a German actor who had a prolific career in film from 1933 to 1954. Born on 21 April 1908 in Darmstadt, Hesse, in the German Empire, he became one of the notable character actors of German cinema during the Weimar Republic and Nazi eras, later continuing his work in post-war West German cinema until his untimely death. His career began with the 1933 film "Tugboat M 17" where he played the role of Jakob, and over the next two decades he appeared in numerous German productions, demonstrating remarkable versatility across genres including drama, comedy, and historical films. He is perhaps best remembered internationally for his role as Heinz Scholtz, an SS Man, in the 1951 American film "Decision Before Dawn," directed by Anatole Litvak, which brought him recognition beyond German-speaking audiences. Throughout his career spanning more than two decades, Seyferth appeared in a wide range of films including "Under Blazing Heavens" (1936), "The Day After the Divorce" (1938), "In the Name of the People" (1939), and the classic "Destiny" (1942). He often played supporting roles as servants, officials, military figures, and various character parts, contributing significantly to the golden age of German cinema. In his personal life, Seyferth was married four times, all to actresses: Eva Ingeborg Scholz, Tatjana Iwanow, Irene Naef, and Lu Säuberlich. His marriage to Eva Ingeborg Scholz lasted from 1953 until his death and produced one child. He died tragically in a traffic accident on 9 October 1954 in Wiesbaden, Hesse, at the age of 46, cutting short what had been a flourishing career in German film. His final film role came posthumously in "Secrets of the City" (1955), released after his death, serving as a final testament to his enduring presence in post-war German cinema.
