Wanda Sykes (born Wanda Yvette Sykes on March 7, 1964) is an American stand‑up comedian, actress, writer, voice artist and activist whose career has stretched from the late 1980s to the present, making her one of the most versatile figures in contemporary comedy. After earning a B.S. in marketing from Hampton University and spending five years as a contracting specialist at the National Security Agency, she began performing at a Coors Light Super Talent Showcase in Washington, D.C. in 1987, honing a razor‑sharp observational style that blends surreal humor, satire and black comedy.
