Trude Herr (German pronunciation: [ˈtʁuːdə hɛʁ]; 4 May 1927 – 16 March 1991) was a celebrated German film actress, singer, and theatre owner who became one of the most beloved entertainers in Germany from the early 1960s until her retirement. Born in the Cologne district of Kalk and raised in the city's Mülheim district, she came from a working-class background—her father Robert Herr was a locomotive driver who was imprisoned for his membership in the Communist Party and later sent to a concentration camp. For him she wrote the song Papa, which she sang at his funeral in 1961. In 1943, the family's apartment was destroyed by bombs, forcing them to relocate to Ewersbach in Hesse, where she worked as a typist for the Dillenburg city administration, earning the nicknames Tutti and dat Pummel because of her full figure.

Her entertainment career began modestly when she became an extra at the Aachener Wanderbühne in 1946 and later received supporting roles at the famous Cologne Millowitsch Theater. In 1949, she co-founded the Cologne Lustspielbühne with her mentor Gustav Schellhardt, although the venture quickly went bankrupt. After its closure, she worked as a barmaid in the gay bar Barberina from 1949 to 1954, before returning to the stage. Her breakthrough came in 1958 when cabaret head Willi Schaeffers discovered her and engaged her for his Berlin show Tingel-Tangel. With the German version of Percolator titled Ich will keine Schokolade (ich will lieber einen Mann)—which reached No. 18 on the German charts—she became a household name, performing the song in the hit film Marina (1960), in which she played Trude Pippes.

Throughout her career, Herr appeared in more than 30 films, made numerous television appearances, and was particularly successful in the German schlager genre. In 1969, she met Tunisian Tuareg Ahmed M'Barek during a journey through the Saharan States, and they married—though the union lasted only until 1976. In 1977, she opened her own folk theater, Theater im Vringsveedel, on Severinstraße, where she performed plays steeped in Kölsch humor and sentimentality, including Die Kölsche Geisha (1977) and Der zweite Frühling (1986). Despite a 97 percent visitor rate and her status as one of the best-attended theaters in North Rhine-Westphalia, the theater experiment ended in 1986 due to financial strain and her declining health. Her melancholic final hit, Niemals geht man so ganz, performed with Wolfgang Niedecken (BAP) and Tommy Engel (Bläck Fööss), reached No. 20 in the German charts in August 1986, cementing her legacy as a true icon of German entertainment before her death from heart failure in Lauris, France, in 1991.
