The daughter of Edward Lucius Hubbard and Rebecca Cecelia Delevante, she grew up during a period of rapid technological change that would later shape her professional path. In 1929 she married Russell Erwin Diehl, a union that ended in divorce, and later, in 1935, she wed actor and writer True Eames Boardman, with whom she had two children, cementing a family deeply rooted in the entertainment industry. Boardman's entry into voice work began with the radio program The Mickey Mouse Theater of the Air in 1937, where she first provided the voice of Minnie Mouse, a role she would reprise during 1938 and again from 1941 to 1942, endearing herself to generations of listeners. Her film debut arrived the following year with the short Donald's Better Self, in which she voiced Donald's Angel, showcasing her versatility and comedic timing. Beyond animation, Boardman contributed to notable Disney productions such as Mother Goose Goes Hollywood (1938), the Spanish dubbing of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1938), and the classic feature Bambi (1942), where her work helped define the studio's iconic soundscape. In addition to acting, she pursued writing, penning scripts for television series including Ethel Barrymore Theater (1956) and the long‑running western Gunsmoke (1971), demonstrating a seamless transition from voice talent to seasoned scenarist. Later in life, Boardman remained active behind the scenes, influencing both radio and television storytelling until her retirement in the early 1970s.
