Palmer initiated her acting career as a teenager in the early 2000s, making her film debut in Wolf Creek (2005). Her performance in the drama film 2:37, portraying a depressed teenager, garnered her critical acclaim and a nomination for the Best Actress AACTA Award. Palmer's early Hollywood roles encompassed films like Bedtime Stories (2008), The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010), and I Am Number Four (2011). Her starring roles in popular horror movies such as Warm Bodies (2013), Lights Out (2016), and The Twin (2022) further established her as a prominent figure in the industry.
Expanding beyond traditional acting roles, Palmer co-wrote and co-produced the drama film The Ever After (2014), starring alongside her husband Mark Webber.
