Steve Howe, born as Stephen James Howe on 8 April 1947, is an English musician recognized for his extraordinary talents. He gained prominence as the guitarist and backing vocalist in the progressive rock band, 'Yes' across three different periods since 1970. Born in Holloway, North London, Howe cultivated a fascination for the guitar at the early age of 12 and began teaching himself the instrument. His musical journey started in 1964 where he played in several London-based blues, covers, and psychedelic rock bands for six consecutive years, including the Syndicats, Tomorrow, and Bodast.

Joining 'Yes' in 1970, Howe's integration of acoustic and electric guitar significantly fostered the band's sound and trajectory, cumulating in both commercial and critical success. He remained with the band until their initial dissolution in 1981 and later rejoined from 1990 to 1992 and again permanently in 1995, making him the longest-serving member of the active band. Apart from 'Yes', Howe has demonstrated his prowess with several other rock bands, such as Asia, GTR, and Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe, and has had a prolific solo career releasing 20 solo albums. He continues to perform with Yes, his jazz group known as the Steve Howe Trio, and as a solo act. Howe was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of 'Yes' in April 2017.
