Shinnosuke Mitsushima (満島 真之介) was born on 30 May 1989 in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. He comes from a creatively inclined family: his older sister is the well‑known actress Hikari Mitsushima, his younger sister Minami Mitsushima is a fashion model, and his brother Kotaro Mitsushima plays professional basketball for Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka. Through his grandfather he possesses a quarter‑Italian heritage, a detail that adds a subtle multicultural dimension to his background. After completing his studies at Okinawa Prefecture Koza High School, Mitsushima relocated to Tokyo, where he initially worked as an after‑school childcare provider before taking on the role of production director for the short film Be Sure to Share. A pivotal moment arrived in 2009 when he embarked on a seven‑month bicycle tour across Japan, traveling from Hokkaido to Kagoshima. During this journey he noticed promotional material for a film starring his sister, which sparked a profound realization that he, too, wanted to pursue acting and make his own mark in the entertainment industry. Determined, he returned to Tokyo and, in December 2009, joined the same talent agency that represented his sister, setting the stage for his professional debut.
