Robert Schwentke: Movies & Box Office

Robert Schwentke (German: [ˈʃvɛŋkə]; born 15 February 1968) is an acclaimed German film director and screenwriter. Fascinatingly, Schwentke was born and raised in Stuttgart, West Germany, and eventually graduated from Los Angeles film school, Columbia College Hollywood (CCH), in 1992. Initially focusing his career in Germany, Schwentke directed two German feature films: the thriller Tattoo and the comedy Eierdiebe, the latter a semi-autobiographical film about the director's own battle and survival from testicular cancer. His Hollywood career commenced when he faced obstacles in financing a third German movie and has since directed hit films like Flightplan (2005), The Time Traveler's Wife (2009), Red (2010), and films from The Divergent Series.

Schwentke's contribution to television commenced when he directed the pilot episode of Fox's Lie to Me in 2009. He also directed the action-comedy crime film R.I.P.D., based on the comic book Rest in Peace Department. Interestingly, he later expressed regret towards making R.I.P.D. due to differences with the studio. Schwentke directed The Divergent Series: Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent, which was released on 20 March 2015, and Part 1 of Allegiant from the two-part finale to the series. More recently, Schwentke directed the G.I. Joe spin-off film centered around Snake Eyes which starred Henry Golding and was released in 2021.
