Peter Howitt: Movies & Box Office

Peter Howitt, born 5 May 1957, is a revered British actor and film director. His life began in Manchester, Lancashire where his father, Frank Howitt, a renowned journalist for Fleet Street, brought him into the world. Frank notably broke the infamous Profumo Scandal, a story that became one of the most famous political scandals in Britain. Peter's early years were spent growing up in Eltham, London and Bromley, Kent and he was educated at Wyborne Primary School in New Eltham and Colfe's Grammar School in Lee, South London. While in Eltham, he was part of the Priory Players amateur dramatics group. Later on, Howitt transferred to the Paisley Grammar School in Paisley, Scotland. His pursuit of drama led him to study at the Drama Studio London in 1976.

Howitt's acting career began in the 1980s and he is best known for his role as Joey Boswell in the first four series of the BBC TV series Bread. His capacity for creativity grew as he transitioned into film directing, writing and producing his first film, Sliding Doors, in 1998. A string of successful movies followed, including Antitrust (2001), Johnny English (2003), Laws of Attraction (2004), and Dangerous Parking (2008). Peter's work in cinema earned him numerous accolades; he received a European Film Award and a Best British Director Empire Award for Sliding Doors along with Jin Jue Awards for Best Film and Best Director for AntiTrust during the Shanghai International Film Festival. Currently living in Vancouver, British Columbia, Howitt continues to contribute significantly to the film industry.
