Pamela Ferris, known as Pam Ferris, is a renowned Welsh actress born on 11 May 1948 in Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany. Famed for her roles in numerous British television series, she made her mark in shows such as Connie, The Darling Buds of May, Where the Heart Is, and Call the Midwife. For her performance as Peggy Snow in Where the Heart Is, she received three nominations for Most Popular Actress at the National Television Awards. Younger audiences also recognize Ferris for her unforgettable portrayal of Miss Agatha Trunchbull in the 1996 film Matilda.

In addition to her television roles, Ferris also portrayed Marge Dursley in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Miriam in Children of Men, and Mrs. Bevan in Nativity! among others. She has also voiced numerous characters in animation productions, with her work including Mrs. Bennett / Aunty Betty in Ethel & Ernest. Ferris has also seen success in theatre, receiving a nomination in 2007 for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role for her performance as Phoebe Rice in The Entertainer at The Old Vic in London. Furthermore, Ferris's career includes parts in Royal Court Theatre and National Theatre productions.

Born to Welsh parents in Germany while her father was serving in the Royal Air Force, Ferris spent her childhood in Aberkenfig area, near Bridgend in Wales. The early part of her acting career saw her perform at the Mercury Theatre in Auckland and later across various regional companies in the UK. On a personal level, Ferris married actor Roger Frost in 1986. She is known to have a focused approach to her work, revealing in a 2012 interview with The Guardian that her dedication to her career is why she did not get married until later in life and did not have children.
