He honed his craft at Calle Flygare’s drama school in Stockholm before entering the prestigious Royal Dramatic Training Academy from 1950 to 1952, interrupting his studies with performances in public parks during the late 1940s. Upon graduation he joined the provincial Östgöta Theatre, where he quickly expanded his repertoire by directing as well as acting, establishing a reputation for versatility that would define his long‑standing career. By the early 1950s he had become a recognizable voice on Swedish radio, most famously hosting the horror‑themed program Mannen i svart, where his deep, resonant timbre and skillful use of sound effects captivated listeners across the nation.**
