Mone Kamishiraishi was born on 27 January 1998 in Kagoshima, Japan, and spent three formative years in Mexico because of her father's overseas assignment, which gave her fluency in English and a working knowledge of Spanish. Raised in an artistic household alongside her younger sister Moka, also an actress, she was encouraged by her music school teacher to enter the 2011 Toho Cinderella Audition, where she earned the Special Jury Prize and secured representation with Toho Entertainment. Her first on‑screen appearance arrived in the final episode of NHK’s taiga drama Gō: Hime‑tachi no Sengoku, and she quickly transitioned to the stage, debuting as a cast member in the Japanese production of The King and I in 2012. The following year she landed the lead role of a fledgling geisha in Masayuki Suo’s musical film Lady Maiko, also performing the theme song “Maiko wa Lady” under the pseudonym Koharu, which showcased her dual talent as actress and singer. Kamishiraishi’s international breakthrough came in 2016 when she voiced the female lead Mitsuha Miyamizu in Makoto Shinkai’s critically acclaimed anime Your Name, earning the Best Actress Award at the 11th Seiyu Awards and introducing her to a global audience. She has since built a versatile portfolio that spans live‑action adaptations such as Chihayafuru (playing Kanade Ōe), the romantic comedy L‑DK: Two Loves, Under One Roof (as Aoi Nishimori), and the popular NHK drama An Incurable Case of Love (as Nanase Sakura). Recent television work includes starring as Nami Suzuki in Oh My Boss! Love is a Separate Volume and portraying Tenshō‑in Atsuhime in the NHK taiga drama Reach Beyond the Blue Sky. In December 2020 she was announced as Yasuko in the historic 105th asadora Come Come Everybody, the first series to feature three actresses sharing a single heroine across different ages. Alongside acting, she continues her music career with releases under Pony Canyon and Universal J, contributing theme songs, performing in concerts, and releasing albums that blend J‑pop sensibilities with classical influences.
