Michelle Buteau, born on July 24, 1977, is an accomplished American stand-up comedian, actress, television host, producer, and podcast host. Born in New Jersey to a Haitian father and a Jamaican mother of partial French descent, Buteau originally considered pursuing a career in journalism. However, her career took a thrilling turn into comedy, starting her comedic journey in 2001. In just five years, she earned her first television spot on Comedy Central - a significant milestone in her career. In 2017, her talents didn't go unnoticed when Esquire listed her as one of ten comedians to watch. The following year was even more eventful for Buteau as she began hosting the Late Night Whenever! podcast, which soon earned recognition as one of the best podcasts of 2018 by Time magazine. She also secured a spot on Netflix's The Comedy Lineup, which features up-and-coming comedians showcasing their talents. Her acting career took off in 2019, where she appeared in several movies including Someone Great, Isn't It Romantic, Sell By, and Always Be My Maybe. That same year, she was part of two television series: First Wives Club and Tales of the City, and started hosting the WNYC podcast, Adultung, with co-host Jordan Carlos. In 2020, Buteau began hosting The Circle, a reality TV show on Netflix. Moreover, she published her first book, Survival of the Thickest, and a TV adaptation of the memoir premiered on Netflix in 2023. In 2021, her show Michelle Buteau: Welcome to Buteaupia won a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Comedy Special. She continued to expand her acting portfolio with a prominent role in the 2024 film Babes, and has been cast in an upcoming film, Fixed, for New Line Cinema.
