**Matthew Charles Labyorteaux** was born on **December 8, 1966** in *Los Angeles, California* and was adopted by interior designer‑talent agent Ronald Labyorteaux and actress Frances Marshall. Although he entered the world with a congenital heart defect and was mistakenly labeled autistic during his early years, diligent care and dietary adjustments helped him overcome those challenges, and he began walking at three and speaking at five. Discovered at age seven while accompanying his older brother Patrick to a casting call, Matthew quickly moved from commercial work to his first dramatic film role in John Cassavetes’ *A Woman Under the Influence*, portraying one of the children of Peter Falk and Gena Rowlands.
