Martin Faranan McDonagh (born 26 March 1970) is a British‑Irish playwright, screenwriter, producer and film director whose work is celebrated for its razor‑sharp dark humor and often unsettling moral ambiguity. Born in Camberwell, London to Irish parents—his mother hailing from Killeenduff, County Sligo and his father from Connemara, County Galway—McDonagh spent much of his childhood shuttling between the bustling streets of East London and the remote landscapes of County Galway, experiences that would later saturate his plays with stark rural Irish settings and a deep sense of place.
