Margarita Levieva was born on February 9, 1980 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, into a Russian‑Jewish family whose roots trace back to the harrowing siege of Leningrad survived by both of her grandmothers. From the age of three she practiced rhythmic gymnastics, a discipline that fostered both poise and determination. At eleven she emigrated to the United States with her mother and twin brother Michael, settling in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn before later moving to Secaucus, New Jersey, where she attended public high school. Though accepted to LaGuardia High School for dance, Levieva chose a more conventional path, working full‑time as a fashion buyer while pursuing an accelerated education at New York University. She graduated a year early with a double major in economics and psychology, complemented by minors in philosophy, sociology, and Russian history, underscoring her intellectual curiosity beyond the performing arts. Lev​ieva’s on‑screen debut arrived in 2005 with a guest role on Law & Order: Trial by Jury, and she quickly accumulated credits in both television and film, including the Fox series Vanished and early movies such as The Invisible, Billy’s Choice, and Noise.
