Marcus Alexander Brigstocke, born on 8 May 1973 in Guildford, England, is a multifaceted British comedian, actor, writer and presenter whose career spans over two decades of television, radio, stage and stand‑up performances. The son of Nick Brigstocke, a stockbroker from a Welsh landed‑gentry family, and Carol Pretty, the daughter of Air Marshal Sir Walter Pretty, he was raised in Surrey and attended a series of independent schools before studying drama at the University of Bristol – a course he ultimately left without completing a degree. In his early twenties he worked on a North Sea oil rig and even appeared as a podium dancer on the music show Electric Circus, using the earnings to fund travels that later seeded material for his comedy act. Brigstocke’s breakthrough came with the comedy trio Club Seals at Bristol, which evolved into the short‑form TV series We Are History (2000‑2001).
