Louise Stanley (born Louise Keyes; January 28, 1915 – December 28, 1982) was an American film actress whose brief but prolific career was largely defined by her appearances in B‑Western pictures of the late 1930s and early 1940s. The daughter of Alvin Keyes, an assistant director of the Illinois State Department of Public Safety, she grew up in Springfield, Illinois, and adopted the stage surname Stanley when she entered the motion‑picture industry. After securing a six‑month contract with Paramount in 1935, which was not renewed, she moved to Warner Bros. where she was periodically loaned to studios that specialized in Westerns. Her first leading role came in 1937 opposite Tex Ritter in Riders of the Rockies, directed by Robert N. Bradbury, and she quickly became a recognizable face in titles such as The Oregon Trail (1939) with Johnny Mack Brown and several Bob Steele westerns. Although she never achieved top‑tier stardom, Stanley appeared in roughly twenty‑four B‑movies, spanning genres from adventure (Fugitive in the Sky, 1936) to comedy shorts with Charley Chase and Andy Clyde. Her screen presence was noted for a blend of rugged charm and the fashionable femininity typical of the era’s female cowgirls. Off‑screen, Stanley’s personal life was marked by a series of brief marriages. She first wed NBC stage announcer Leland "Lee" Hunt Bennett in 1934, a union that ended in divorce two years later. In 1937 she married actor, writer and director Dennis O'Keefe; the couple divorced in 1938. Her most publicized relationship was with singing cowboy Addison Randall, whom she married, divorced, remarried, and divorced again after his affair with Louise Brooks. In 1942 she married Navy pilot Charles Munn Jr., a marriage that also ended in divorce amid allegations of abuse. After her final separation, Stanley retired from acting, settled in Florida, and died of cancer in Cocoa Beach in 1982.
