Lolita Rodriguez, born Dolores Marquez Clark on January 29, 1935, in Urdaneta, Pangasinan, was a legendary Filipino actress who earned the prestigious title of Queen of Philippine Drama. Throughout her remarkable four-decade career, she became known for her restrained and subtle acting style, captivating audiences with her performances across various film genres including drama, comedy, and action. She was the daughter of an American father, William Charles Clark, and a Filipino mother, Carmen Marquez, which gave her a unique cultural background. Rodriguez entered the movie industry at the age of 18 in 1953, with her first film being Sampaguita Pictures' Ating Pag-ibig starring alongside Tita Duran and Pancho Magalona. From there, she went on to star in numerous films including Apat Na Taga, Cofradia, Mr. Kasintahan, Sabungera, and Jack And Jill with Dolphy and Rogelio dela Rosa, establishing herself as a versatile performer.

Her career was marked by numerous award-winning performances and notable collaborations. She received two FAMAS Awards for her portrayals in Gilda (1956) and Weighed But Found Wanting (1974), cementing her status as one of the Philippines' most acclaimed actresses. She won the Best Actress award at the 1968 Manila Film Festival for Kasalanan Kaya? and at the 1971 Catholic Mass Media Awards for Stardoom. One of her most significant collaborations was with National Artist Lino Brocka in the 1974 drama Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang. In 1979, she also ventured into stage acting, performing in the play Larawan at the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA). She appeared in over 85 films throughout her career, with notable action roles in Tarhata (1957), Kilabot Sa Makiling (1959), Kapitan Lolita Limbas (1961), and Diegong Tabak (1962). After marrying Eddie Arenas from Sampaguita Pictures and having three children—Maria Dolores (Birdie), Eduardo Jr. (Bogey), and Maria Carmen (Par)—Rodriguez migrated to the United States in 1977. She made a screen comeback in 1985 with Paradise Inn and her final role was in the 1991 television movie Lucia directed by Mel Chionglo, before passing away from a stroke on November 28, 2016, at the age of 81 in Hemet, California.
