Lindsay Lamb (born David Lindsay Lamb on 24 October 1913 in Geelong, Victoria) was an Australian rules footballer whose brief but turbulent Victorian Football League (VFL) career reflected both the sporting passions and labour tensions of 1930s Australia. Recruited from the local club Barrabool, Lamb made his league debut in the 17th round of the 1933 season against Richmond at Corio Oval, a match that would remain his sole senior appearance for two years while he honed his skills on the fringes of the Geelong squad. In 1935 he returned to the side during a period of intense industrial unrest, as the Geelong branch of the Waterside Workers' Federation accused him of volunteering during the meat strikes and consequently black‑listed the Geelong Football Club as long as Lamb remained on the list. The dispute reached a dramatic climax in the opening round fixture against Carlton, where five of Lamb’s teammates reportedly petitioned for his omission out of fear of reprisals; the club president, however, publicly affirmed Lamb’s right to play and warned that any player refusing to take the field would be barred from representing Geelong again or transferring to another league club. Defying the pressure, Lamb took the field, appearing in the first three rounds of the 1935 season before losing his place in the side, and was omitted from Geelong’s list in 1936 under a cloud of uncertainty regarding the influence of the union dispute. After his VFL stint, Lamb continued to play at a regional level with Newtown & Chilwell, contributing his experience to local football circles. He lived his entire life in his hometown, passing away on 4 May 1994 at the age of 80, remembered by club historians as a player whose career was shaped as much by off‑field controversy as by his on‑field contributions.
