Leylâ Sayar (December 27, 1939 – July 22, 2016) was a celebrated Turkish actress whose career spanned nearly two decades, alongside her pursuits as an author, ballerina, beauty queen, and singer. Born in Istanbul to a Circassian mother and a Macedonian Turkish father, she came from a culturally rich background that influenced both her personal identity and artistic sensibilities. Before stepping into the world of cinema, Sayar attended the American Academy for Girls, where she received a solid education that helped shape her poise and elegance. In 1957, she was crowned Miss Cinema Star, and she also briefly held the title of first runner-up in the prestigious Miss Turkey beauty pageant. Additionally, she finished first in the Miss Beach Beauty competition, cementing her status as one of the most admired beauties of her era. Sayar took formal acting lessons at the Turkish State Theatre in Ankara, where she honed her craft before transitioning to the silver screen. Between 1957 and 1976, she appeared in an impressive 170 films, making her one of the most prolific actresses in Turkish cinema history. In her personal life, she was romantically linked to actor Muzaffer Tema in the late 1950s, though the two never married. After her breakup with Tema, she briefly dated fellow star Göksel Arsoy. In 1976, at the height of her fame, Sayar made a surprising and life-altering decision to renounce her career and devote herself entirely to religion and charitable works. From that point onward, she famously refused to use any electronic appliances or devices, embracing a life of simplicity and spiritual dedication. In addition to her acting career, she authored several books, including Altın Kalem, Erdemin Sırları, Meleğin Sözleri (published in 2002), Mühür, and Mürşit.
