Laura Mañá Alvarenga is a Spanish actress, film director and screenwriter born on 12 January 1968 in Barcelona. From a young age she was drawn to the vibrant Catalan cultural scene, and she began her professional acting career in the early 1990s, appearing in films such as Lolita al desnudo (1991) and La Teta y la luna (1994) under the direction of notable Spanish auteurs like Bigas Luna and Vicente Aranda. Her early work as an actress earned her recognition for a bold, naturalistic style that would later inform her own directorial voice. In 1997 she made her debut behind the camera with the short film Paraules, a tightly crafted piece that demonstrated her aptitude for narrative structure and visual storytelling.
