Keiichi Ozawa, born on January 5, 1933, in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, is a celebrated Japanese film director whose career has spanned over six decades. He is best known for his work on the iconic Outlaw series, which has become a defining contribution to Japanese cinema, particularly within the action and crime genres. Ozawa began his professional journey in the film industry in 1956, joining the prestigious Nikkatsu studio where he worked as an assistant director under the mentorship of Toshio Masuda, a prominent Japanese filmmaker. This formative period allowed him to develop his directorial skills and gain a deep understanding of the craft before eventually stepping into the director's chair himself.

Ozawa made his directorial debut in 1968 with Outlaw: Gangster VIP 2, the second installment in what would become a legendary series of action films. The Outlaw series, which includes titles such as Outlaw: Goro the Assassin, Outlaw: Black Dagger, and Outlaw: Kill!, cemented Ozawa's reputation as a master of the genre and featured Tetsuya Watari, who became a recurring presence in many of Ozawa's films during his tenure at Nikkatsu. Beyond the Outlaw franchise, Ozawa directed a diverse range of films, including Big Boss: Outlaw, Profile of a Boss' Son, Women's Police: Swirling Butterflies, Pay Off Your Debt!, and the unique Earth Ninja Chronicles: Duel in the Wind in 1970. He also helmed Kantō Exile in 1971, demonstrating his ability to tackle varied subject matter. In addition to his work in film, Ozawa expanded his craft to television, directing episodes of popular series such as Taiyō ni Hoero! (1972–78), Daitokai Series (1976–79), Daitsuiseki (1978), Tantei Monogatari series (1979–80), Seibu Keisatsu series (1979–84), and Pro Hunter (1981). His later works include Tekkihei, Tonda in 1980 and Tale of the Crane Princess in 1993, showcasing his enduring creativity and adaptability as a filmmaker. With a career that remains active to this day, Ozawa's contributions to Japanese cinema continue to influence both critics and filmmakers alike.
