Kathleen Crowley (born Betty Jane Crowley on 1929-12-26) was an American actress who rose to prominence after winning the Miss New Jersey title in 1949 and placing seventh in the Miss America competition. After graduating from Egg Harbor City High School in 1946, she secured a scholarship to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she began her training in New York City. Her television debut came in February 1951 on Robert Montgomery Presents, and she quickly amassed 81 television appearances and 20 film roles between 1951 and 1970. Crowley became especially well‑known for her recurring role as Terry Van Buren in the series Waterfront and for appearing in seven episodes of the iconic detective show 77 Sunset Strip. She is perhaps most celebrated for her eight appearances on Maverick, a series‑record for a leading lady, where James Garner praised her depth of performance in his memoir The Garner Files. In addition to westerns and detective dramas, Crowley featured in a variety of science‑fiction and horror films, showcasing versatility across genres. Her later work included guest spots on Perry Mason, Batman, and a final film role opposite Robert Redford in Downhill Racer. Outside of acting, she married Los Angeles businessman John Rubsam in 1969 and gave birth to their son, Matthew, in 1970. Kathleen Crowley passed away on 2017-04-23 at her home in Green Bank, New Jersey, at the age of 87, leaving behind a legacy of more than one hundred screen credits.
