Kat Stewart is an Australian actress whose career spans over four decades, beginning in the early 1980s after she left a brief stint in publicity to pursue professional acting. Born Katherine Louise Stewart on 30 November 1972 in Bairnsdale, Victoria, she grew up traveling through Europe with her parents Tony and Kitty Stewart, an experience she credits with fostering confidence and a global outlook. From Year 2 she found solace on the school stage, later studying marketing and arts at university while joining the theatre society where her passion deepened. Upon graduation she trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, and despite periods of unemployment she persisted, securing early television roles that would lay the groundwork for her breakthrough. Her breakout came with the role of Roberta Williams in the landmark crime series Underbelly (2008), a performance praised for its raw intensity and emotional depth, earning her an AFI award and a Silver Logie. She followed this success with acclaimed parts in Tangle, the satirical series :30 Seconds, and most notably as Billie Proudman in the hit drama‑comedy Offspring (2010‑2017), where her blend of humor and vulnerability made her a household name and garnered multiple Logie and AACTA nominations.
