Julie Taymor, born December 15, 1952 in Newton, Massachusetts, emerged from a childhood steeped in theatrical curiosity, joining the Boston Children’s Theatre at ten and traveling to Sri Lanka and India as a teenager through the Experiment in International Living. After a precocious graduation at sixteen, she refined her physical storytelling at L’École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris, where masks and mime became foundational tools.
