Joshua Jacob Marston is an esteemed American screenwriter and film director, ultimately renowned for his captivating film, Maria Full of Grace. His birth took place in Los Angeles County, California on August 13, 1968, and he later graduated from the reputable Beverly Hills High School. His initial career path led him to Paris, where he served as an intern for Life. His work journey continued at ABC News, contributing significantly during the Gulf War. Marston eventually returned to the United States and pursued higher academia, where he earned a master's degree in Political Science from the University of Chicago in 1994. His passion for film then led him to obtain a Master of Fine Arts in film at New York University.

Besides his famous film Maria Full of Grace, Marston directed an episode of Six Feet Under and Episode 7 of The Newsroom in 2012. He also directed a segment of the collective film New York, I Love You. His proficiency in filmmaking was further proven when his 2011 film The Forgiveness of Blood earned him a spot in competition at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival, going head-to-head for the Golden Bear. This film, co-created with Andamion Murataj, won Marston the Silver Bear for Best Script. Following this career highlight, Marston received a Guggenheim Fellowship in Film-Video in 2014. He diversified his international audience in 2016 with Complete Unknown starring Rachel Weisz and Michael Shannon, which premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, thanks to Amazon Studios & IFC Films. Later, in 2018, his film Come Sunday was released on Netflix.
