Jonathan Nossiter, born in 1961, is a prominent American filmmaker renowned for his noteworthy contributions to the world of cinema. Son to Bernard Nossiter, a foreign correspondent for New York Times and Washington Post, Nossiter was born into a Jewish family and brought up in an array of diverse cultural settings that spanned from France, England, Italy and Greece to India. Alongside an enriched international upbringing, Nossiter's education profile features a study in painting at Beaux Arts, Paris and the San Francisco Art Institute,and Ancient Greek at Dartmouth College. His foundational journey into the realm of films began in New York, traversed through an engaging work tenure as an assistant director for theatre in England, and eventually landed him at the set of film Fatal Attraction as an assistant to director Adrian Lyne. The film marked the initiation of Nossiter's cinema career that launched him to the heights of success. His debut feature film 'Resident Alien,' where he donned multiple roles of a writer, producer and director was theatrically released in 1991. His next big achievement came in the form of his second feature film 'Sunday'(1997). The movie, a co-production with Alix Madigan won Sundance Film Festival's Best film and Best Screenplay awards. Nossiter's other popular works include 'Signs and Wonders' (2000), 'Mondovino' (2004) and 'Losing The Thread', that further cemented his stature as an esteemed filmmaker. In addition to filmmaking, he also had a parallel career as a trained sommelier, creating exquisite wine lists and training staff for restaurants in places like New York, Paris and Rio de Janeiro. A hardcore wine enthusiast, Nossiternot only wrote a book titled 'Taste & Power: The wine world wars,' but also directed and produced 'Mondovino', a documentary on the world of wine, which earned critical acclaim and various nominations.
