John Dahl is an esteemed American film and television director and writer. Born on June 15, 1956, in Billings, Montana, he is renowned for his significant contributions in the neo-noir genre. As the second of four children in his family, he also has a brother, Rick Dahl, who ventured into the filmmaking industry. His profound interest in film burgeoned at the tender age of seventeen, sparked by the captivating movie, A Clockwork Orange. This film stirred his imaginative faculties and instilled in John a realization of the intense effort that goes into the creation of movies. This realization pathed the way for Dahl's filmmaking career. He attended Montana State University, where he received his degree in film, and was notably a student of Bill Pullman, who later starred in one of Dahl's films. During his astounding educational journey, he also sparked his romance with Beth Friedberg, who became his wife. After University, both Dahl and Beth proceeded to the AFI Conservatory in Los Angeles to further hone their film making skills. Dahl's career initially began as a storyboard artist and assistant director, during which he worked on music videos and short films. His most significant films include Kill Me Again, Red Rock West, and The Last Seduction, the latter featuring a praiseworthy performance by Linda Fiorentino.
