J.D. Cannon: Movies & Box Office

John Donovan Cannon, widely known as J.D. Cannon, was an American actor and a distinguished alumnus of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. His acting career is best remembered for his co-starring role of Chief of Detectives Peter B. Clifford in the television series 'McCloud' opposite Dennis Weaver from 1970 until 1977, and for the significant part he played as the witness Lloyd Chandler that cleared Dr. Richard Kimble, a character portrayed by David Janssen in 'The Judgment', the series finale of 'The Fugitive'. During World War II, Cannon served in the United States Army. He first appeared on television as Master Sergeant Sherman in the sitcom 'The Phil Silvers Show', and over the years, guest-starred in numerous series including 'Gunsmoke', 'Combat!', 'The Virginian', and 'Law & Order'. He often stepped into the shoes of villainous characters in film roles. He took the stage as a founding member of Joseph Papp's New York Shakespeare Festival and worked in the original off-Broadway production of Athol Fugard's 'Blood Knot'. Cannon was also the presenter in an instructional video demonstrating an MCA DiscoVision video disc player back in 1979. He spent the later part of his life in Hudson, New York, where he died on May 20, 2005, at the age of 83.
