Janine Crispin (25 June 1911 – 18 June 2001) was a French film and television actress whose career spanned an impressive five decades, from the early 1930s through the late 1970s. Born in Paris, France, she became a recognizable face in French cinema during the golden age of European filmmaking, contributing to numerous productions across both the silver screen and television. Crispin was also credited under the alternative name Jeannine Crepin during parts of her career, a variation that occasionally appeared in film credits and promotional materials. She began her acting career in 1933, debuting in the film Court Waltzes the same year she appeared in High and Low, quickly establishing herself as a versatile performer capable of handling diverse roles. Throughout the 1930s, she appeared in a string of notable films including Song of Farewell (1934), Second Bureau (1935), The Secret of Polichinelle (1936), Moutonnet (1936), the adventure epic Taras Bulba (1936), The Forsaken (1937), and The Postmaster's Daughter (1938). After a hiatus during the Second World War, Crispin returned to acting in the late 1940s, appearing in Le Bataillon du ciel (1947) and At the Grand Balcony (1949), further cementing her reputation in French cinema. In the latter part of her career, she successfully transitioned into television, taking on the role of Eliabel Cressay in the acclaimed miniseries Les Rois maudits (1972), based on Maurice Druon's famous historical novels. She continued working in the industry until 1978, leaving behind a rich legacy of performances. Crispin passed away on 18 June 2001 in Paris, France, just days before her 90th birthday, at the age of 89.
