James D. Stern: Movies & Box Office

James D. Stern is an esteemed American film and Broadway producer, who won a 2003 Tony Award for his work in Hairspray. He has been nominated for several other awards and is a recognized Drama Desk Award Winner for Stomp. Stern was affiliated with both the IMAX film Michael Jordan to the Max and HBO's It's the Rage, contributing to these productions as a co-director and producer. His impressive portfolio includes many critically acclaimed pieces such as the twelve-time Tony Award-winning The Producers, eight-time Tony Award-winning Hairspray, and The Diary of Anne Frank starring Natalie Portman. Stern was also the producer behind Alan Menken's Leap of Faith during the fall of 2010. He produced outstanding plays like Stomp, Legally Blonde, and the Olivier Award-winning play The Weir. Stern's also shows his business acumen by founding and running the financial investment company and hedge fund Stern Joint Venture, L.P. (SJV). He also launched Endgame Entertainment and FilmDistrict which produced the thriller Self/less. He directed the thought provoking 2018 documentary American Chaos. Stern studied at the University of Michigan earning a B.A. in directing and then furthered his education at Columbia University where he earned a M.B.A. in marketing and finance.
