Howard Dell (born 14 April 1962 in Toronto, Ontario) is a multifaceted Canadian athlete best known for his contributions to both bobsleigh and Canadian football. From a young age he demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for track and field, excelling as a nationally ranked decathlete and 400‑metre hurdler, which laid the foundation for his later speed‑and‑power disciplines. In the mid‑1980s Dell transitioned to bobsleigh, joining the Canadian program as a brakeman and quickly establishing himself as a reliable push athlete; his explosive sprint background proved invaluable in the intense start phases of the sport. He competed in over thirty World Cup events across four seasons, securing three Canadian championships in both the two‑man and four‑man categories alongside driver David Leuty of Toronto, and captured a bronze medal at the 1985 World Bobsleigh Push Championships held in the former Soviet Union. Dell's Olympic pinnacle arrived at the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary, where he represented Canada in the four‑man bobsleigh event, contributing to the nation's growing presence in the sport. Following his bobsleigh career, Dell turned to Canadian football, signing with the Toronto Argonauts and later the Winnipeg Blue Bombers during the 1990 and 1991 seasons.
