Grethe Kausland, born Grethe Nilsen on July 3, 1947, in Horten, Norway, emerged as one of the nation's most cherished entertainers, beginning her remarkable career as a child prodigy when she made her stage debut at merely four years old in a local revue production. Her breakthrough came at age eight in 1955 when she won a radio-transmitted amateur competition and recorded her debut single "Teddyen min" backed with "Cowboyhelten," a release that became a sensational radio hit and sold over 100,000 copies. This success established her as Norway's premier child star and led to a prolific early career that included starring roles in films such as Smugler i smoking (1957), Selv om de er små (1957), Far til fire og onkel Sofus (1957), and Ivo Caprino's Ugler i mosen (1959), with ten records recorded before she turned twelve.
