Georg Alexander (born Werner Ludwig Georg Lüddeckens; 3 April 1888 – 30 October 1945) was a prominent German film actor who became one of the most prolific presences in German cinema during the early 20th century. Born in Hannover, German Empire, he began his acting career in the silent film era and continued working through the transition to sound films, adapting his style to meet the changing demands of the industry. Over the course of his career, he appeared in well over 100 films, establishing himself as a versatile performer capable of handling both comedic and dramatic roles with equal skill. He also ventured into directing, contributing to several silent-era productions and gaining experience behind the camera. His career spanned from 1921 to 1944, during which time he worked with many of the leading actresses and actors of the German film industry, including his wife Aud Egede-Nissen, a Norwegian actress whom he married in 1915 and divorced in 1924, after nearly a decade of marriage.

Georg Alexander's extensive filmography reflects the golden age of Weimar and early Nazi-era German cinema, with appearances in notable films such as Princess Olala (1928), The Tsarevich (1933), Tales from the Vienna Woods (1934), and The Importance of Being Earnest (1932). He frequently played charming, sophisticated characters, which made him a popular leading man in romantic comedies and light dramas throughout the 1920s and 1930s. His collaborations with various directors helped shape the aesthetic of German entertainment cinema during this period. Despite his prolific output, he remained somewhat of a supporting player rather than a top-tier star, but his consistent work made him a familiar face to German audiences across the continent. He passed away in Berlin on 30 October 1945, at the age of 57, in Allied-occupied Germany, just months after the end of World War II. His son, Georg Richter, followed in his footsteps and also became an actor, continuing the family's legacy and connection to the German film industry for another generation.
