Gen Hoshino (星野 源) is a multifaceted Japanese artist born on January 28, 1981 in Warabi, Saitama, who has achieved prominence as a singer‑songwriter, musician, actor, voice actor and writer. He first entered the music scene in 2000 as the leader of the instrumental band Sakerock, where he played marimba and guitar and released more than ten albums before the group disbanded in 2015. Launching his solo career in 2010 with the album Baka no Uta, Hoshino quickly gained commercial success; subsequent releases such as Episode (2011), Stranger (2013) and Yellow Dancer (2015) all charted within the top five of the Oricon Albums Chart, with Yellow Dancer earning a platinum certification for physical shipments and a gold certification for digital sales. His fifth album Pop Virus (2018) topped the Oricon chart for four weeks and was certified double platinum, a feat that earned him the Best Album award at the 33rd Japan Gold Disc Awards. Beyond music, Hoshino has become a recognizable television personality, co‑hosting the Ustream program Sake no Sakana (later Yoru no Television) since 2011 and starring in the hit drama The Full‑Time Wife Escapist (2016), which achieved a 20.8 % viewership peak and secured him several Best Supporting Actor honors. As a voice actor he has contributed to acclaimed animated films such as Night Is Short, Walk On Girl (2017) and Mirai (2018), while his live‑action film roles include Blindly in Love (2013) and the Taiga drama Idaten (2019). In his personal life, Hoshino married actress Yui Aragaki in 2021; the couple have not disclosed any children.
