Fritzi Brunette (born Florence Brunet; May 27, 1890 – September 28, 1943) was an American actress who built a prolific career spanning three decades during the formative years of American cinema. Born in Savannah, Georgia, though some sources cite Boston as her birthplace and some records indicate her birthname may have been Florence Simone, she was educated in New York City before embarking on a remarkable journey in the entertainment industry. Brunette made her film debut in the 1912 short A Waiter of Weight, quickly followed by appearances in The Joy Ride and His Neighbor's Wife the same year, establishing herself as a versatile performer during the silent film era. Throughout the 1910s and early 1920s, Brunette became a familiar face in Hollywood, appearing in notable films such as Unto Those Who Sin (1916), where she portrayed a working girl lured by wealth and luxury, The Woman Thou Gavest Me (1919), While Satan Sleeps (1922), Bells of San Juan (1922), and Camille of the Barbary Coast (1925). Her career flourished during this period, with frequent collaborations alongside her husband, William Robert Daly, a silent film actor and director who helmed many of her projects. Daly, who became her third husband, directed Brunette in numerous productions until his death around 1935. After Daly's passing, Brunette married Louisville, Kentucky real estate operator John E. Kley. As the film industry transitioned into the sound era, Brunette's roles gradually shifted, and she primarily took on uncredited parts during the 1930s and 1940s. Her later appearances included small roles in major productions such as Stagecoach (1939), Way Out West (1937), and Make Way for Tomorrow (1937), showcasing her adaptability even as the industry changed around her. Her final screen appearance came in You're Telling Me (1942), marking the end of an illustrious thirty-year career in film. Brunette passed away on September 28, 1943, in Hollywood, California, after an extended illness, at the age of 53.
